In UK when Germany surrendered VE day May 8 1945
the man came round on his bicycle, with his ladder, and lit the lamps
they had clockwork controlled valve and a pilot light
Certainly the change from coal gas / bygas to natural gas would have
eliminated them
Bymuseet København has taken the old gas lamps down becasue of the risk
of damage by heavy traffic during bysaneringer
Schimmelmannsvej ? or Fabritius Alle ? in Klampenborg used to have gas
lights until a couple of years ago
has any one seen them lately
