Very. Of the only other contenders with eyebrows, Eyebrowed Thrush is
plain grey on the breast in the male but in both sexes a much plainer
bird (plus it's the wrong time of year) and Dusky Thrush has a
different shape as well as other plumage differences. So the likeliest
bird in Scandinavia at this time of year is the right one.

Cheers,

Phil

That's what my mother always used to say anyway. It's just getting
everyone else to recognise it that's the problem.

Cheers,

Phil

100%!

What else could it possibly be? Phil has ruled out two vagrants which
were hardly contenders anyway. "Carpist" said "Not Redwing", but didn't
explain why it wasn't.

Occam's Razor should always be applied to bird identification

I don't rule anything out absolutely on range alone. If a Belted
Kingfisher can flop down two miles from my house completely out of the
blue, then I can't *automatically* rule out something odd. But as you
imply, 99.999 percent of the time, it will be the expected bird in the
expected place. Some people must find that hard to live with, because
I keep reading about possible vagrants that turn out to be just the
usual bird in the usual place after all. Some were trying to turn
Honey Buzzard into Lesser Spotted Eagle last week. Fortunately the
bird was photographed.

Cheers,

Phil
