Windows XP and handling of not accessable ~

Hello,
I am about getting real "......." (word removed) regarding the MS XP Windows
and access to networkdrives that are unreachable.
I have my computer working on two networks. On none of the networks it
connects to a domain.
The one network is running a Linux server with Samba, but this should not
play any critical role. When being on that network everything is just fine -
I have my mapped network drives and everything is just fine.
On the other network, I only occationally connect a network-drive. This
network is mostly Windows-server based network, but should to my view be to
no trouble. But when being on that (windows) network my computer has great
problems opening the file dialog box. I believe that I tries to connect to
the Linux-server. I found once, that converting the computer to handle
offline folders seemed to solve the problem - and it does on the network
with the Windows servers. However when being on the Linux the server several
times an hour looses the content of the mapped Linux/samba drives for a
period of time. Of course this is when I need it most.
Is there any way to solve this on both networks?
Regards
