Market Update: Charge! Stocks Soar as Earnings Jitters Recede
By Diane Hess
Staff Reporter
4/10/01 11:10 AM ET

(Updated from 11:10 a.m.)

The running of the bulls this morning pushed stocks sharply higher as fears
about earnings confession season receded.

On the cusp of first-quarter reporting season, investors were acting like
the worst days may be behind them. Out of the starting gate, the bulls
gained control of momentum. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lately was up
some 230 points, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index was popping
about 102 points. The broader S&P 500 was climbing 30.2 points.

Reality Bites: Signs of a Bottom
By Bill Meehan

It's Not Too Early to Invest

Believing the repentant perma-bulls who insist the outlook for earnings or
economic stability must improve before you can invest with confidence seems
to be foolish (in the classic definition of the word, not the online
version). They were wrong at the top, and they seem destined to be wrong
again. Many are only now coming to realize that their inexperience has left
them dangling in the wind. They're simply paralyzed, as a reorientation to
the harsh realities of the market has turned their endless cliches and
logic-defying jargon into little more than aimless rambling. Nothing so much
serves to illustrate this fact than to read Barron's "Market Watch" page,
although CNBC serves up quite a bit daily.

That so many bulls have turned tail and volatility has increased
dramatically, with industry analysts in their bunkers, can be taken as signs
that we are in a bottoming process. I'm not stupid enough to say that the
major market measures have made absolute lows, but also not stupid enough to
say that it's too early to invest in companies with strong management teams
and successful business plans. etc etc

Any questions?

.. I USA er Nasdaq-indekset <.IXIC> i ugens første to dage

Nasdaq rallies for fourth straight day
Market Snapshot

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - The Nasdaq made another bold push into the plus column
Thursday, rising for a fourth straight day, a feat that hadn't been achieved
in over seven months. The tech benchmark rallied 14 percent in the
holiday-shortened week.

The Dow Industrials also swelled, overcoming early weakness to end with a
triple-digit gain. The blue-chip barometer initially slumped under the
weight of retail stocks, which weakened on the heels of a string of soggy
same-store-sales results for March.

"We're seeing buying interest from institutional customers that we haven't
seen since January. And given the depressed levels we rallied from, it
didn't take much to get things going," observed Steve Massocca, head of
trading and president of Pacific Growth Equities.

Tech Funds Notch Best Week in 15 Years -- Let It Be a Warning
By Ian McDonald
Senior Writer
4/13/01 2:44 PM ET

This week may feel like a salve to scorched tech-fund investors, but it's
really a thinly veiled gut check.

Over the past week, despite a dearth of particularly compelling good news,
chip and dot-com stocks have charged north. Tech funds, down more than 50%
over the past 12 months, have jumped 20.1% on average in the five-session
period through Wednesday. That's far and away the best one-week gain for the
mercurial pack over the past 15 years, according to Lipper. The previous
best for the past 15 years was a 14.6% gain in the five trading days ending
Oct. 15, 1998.

Paul Cherney, chief market analyst for Standard & Poor's, tells why he
thinks the worst is over for the markets

Extra* Daily Interview: Examining the Fed Rate Cut
By Lee Barney
Staff Reporter
4/18/01 1:03 PM ET

Paul Cherney, the chief market analyst for Standard & Poor's, talked to
Daily Interview today about the surprise 50 basis-point rate cut by the Fed.
Cherney says he feels the slowdown in revenues and earnings by tech
companies was the catalyst for the Fed's move, and that it'll be tech stocks
that lead us out of the downturn. Moreover, he says that the market reached
a bottom two weeks ago when selling pressure reached its heights. For more,

Forresten er profitaking fredag eftermiddag åbenlys.
For dem der vil sikre sig en lille profit så skal der sælges tidligt på
eftermiddagen.

Dem der beholder vinder mere i sidste ende. Buy and hold.
