My G-G-Grandfather's brother, Niels Andreas Buchwaldt LUND was in
England ca 1852 and in Dayton Ohio USA ca 1860-63 according to a
document sent me from Holstebro recently. Niels was a military man
born 15 Jan 1828 in Viborg. He lived in Raasted, Ulfborg, Ringkøbing,
DK with brother and parents before emigrating. In Dayton he stayed at
the home of O. C. Olsen. I don't know more about him. I would
appreciate anyone with access to census and/or Civil War records,
please check to see if Niels is listed and if info is found, contact
me.

Den første emigrant fra Råsted var en af møller Lunds sønner: Niels
Andreas Buchwaldt Lund, der så tidligt som i 1860 havde adresse hos O
C Olsen i byen Dayton i staten Ohio i Midtwesten. At betragte Niels
som en ung mand med en ubetvingelig fremdrift, der kun lod sig udvikle
på de store prærier, er ifølge et brev fra faderen til etatsråd Tang
på Nørre Vosborg af den 24, februar 1860 lovlig optimistisk. Ifølge
brevet havde sønnen nu skrevet til faderen og bedt ham sende penge
over til sig, da han var blevet blind!
