When I open a word dokument under office2000 and win2k the CPU goes
hot and the cpu fan goes crasy. it sounds like a Boeing 747 that takes
off!. Same problem with wordXP and WinXP. Any Ideas?

Most likely you´ve one or more Scheduling - or Indexing programs running
in the background so if you are working with new installations please
look (In WIN2000) at programs/Accessories/System Tools - System
information.
Click for Software Environment, choose Running Tasks where you´ll find a
list of programs, similar to the one´s quoted below:

system
csrss.exe
smss.exe
winlogon.exe
services.exe
Isass. exe
svchost.exe
spoolsv.exe
regsvc.exe
mstask.exe
winmgmt.exe
explorer.exe
em_exec.exe
internat.exe
mmc.exe

Start Word, repeat the procedure, which may show a different list.

If your list shows anything different it´s worth while to check out.
It´s not possible to cancel from there but please supply us with the
name for veryfying.
Also you have great possibilities to control in that OS. Effective
keywords in Help are System, pointing to System Monitor, which can be
set to run on top of all, showing you, how much press there is on CPU.
Also there may be set log files etc.

Hopefully some of this will help.

Tnx. I looked at it and there is nothing abnormal, so I don't know....
But let me ask you a question:
When I look at the list of processes, I have several svchost.exe
processes running, what are they? and can they be stopped?

Sorry to learn you still have problems. One good thing is that exactly
that OS is loaded with tons of ways for troubleshooting. Even I myself
run a copy of it I still find new possibilities so my best advice for
you is that you contact the special group for WIN2000.

You may get it through your usual connection or directly from
News:\\Msnews.microsoft.com

Title is "Microsoft.public.win2000.general"

There you´ll meet the experts. A practical tip (since there usually are
up to 2000 messages the day) is that you use a very special text as
subject AND that you build a message rule which will secure that only
replies for you will be downloaded.

The trick is "Where the message is in xxx newsgroup if the following
text is NOT found in subjectline - Delete.

Surely I hope you´ll get a solution there.
