Backup Diary
Use this option to backup your diary data files. This is a manual backup option, iDailyDiary will also do automatic backups when exiting iDailyDiary, the timing for automatic backups is set in Preferences - Main Window. With the manual option you can choose to backup your diary either to the default backup location (set in Preferences) or choose another location.
iDailyDiary keeps two backups, backup one is a copy of your current data files and the other backup is a copy of backup one. So in the backup folder you will usually end up with these 4 files:
MyDiary.iDD
MyDiary.DAT
MyDiary.BLB
MyDiary.IDX
These 4 above are a copy of your current data files. you also will have:
MyDiary.iDD.bak
MyDiary.DAT.bak
MyDiary.BLB.bak
MyDiary.IDX.bak
These 4 above are copy of backup one, they are the same backup files simply renamed to have a .bak extension.
Restore Diary
You can restore your diary from a set of backup files. Restore simply copies the set of 4 data files from the backup folder to wherever your current data files are located, it will overwrite any existing files. Choose the diary to Restore from the list and click ok, or you can browse to an alternate backup folder to restore a different set of files.
Archive Diary
(feature only available in Professional version)
Using this feature you can archive the entries from your diary to another diary - by date range. For example, if you wished to keep each year in a separate diary you could archive the entires for a particular year to another diary database, this would copy the entries from the currently open diary to the new diary, and remove any archived entries from the currently open diary.
Repair Diary
It is rare that the iDailyDiary data files would need repairing. However it is possible for database index corruption to occur if the computer is shutdown unexpectedly (e.g. due to a power failure). In most cases iDailyDiary will detect any database corruption and automatically run a repair without any user intervention, however if you experience unexpected database errors it is worth trying a manual repair.
Compact Diary
When records are deleted from iDailyDiary the diary data files do not automatically reduced in size, rather the deleted space inside the diary data file remains unused. In order to reorganize the diary database and remove any space left by deleted records you can run a compact diary.
Move Diary
This option will move your diary data files from one folder to another. This is useful if you wish to transfer your diary to/from a USB stick and will avoid the confusion of having multiple copies of the same diary. Simply choose which folder to move the diary data files to.
Delete Diary
This will allow you to choose a diary database file and delete it. You must ensure the diary is not currently open.
