Hi Tristan.
My lovely Persian had only ever had Hill's dry catfood (both plain and
anti-hairball), and apparently had rejected any other food along the
lines of 'what cats usually like'. I tried several types of well known
'cat candy', goodies and treats, but she barely looked at it, clearly
thinking 'What's that - it can't be food - not interesting at all
(ho-hum)'.
But due to some digestion probs she had I tried Royal Canin for Persian
Cats, among other brands (Oliver's, too, but actually they import some
of the meat all the way from New Zealand, which I find silly as well as
environmentally irresponsible), and this one (RC Persian 30) she liked!
In fact it's a bit like a classic commercial.... She even eats it out of
my hand
I don't think you mentioned which type of cat you've
got, and perhaps you've tried RC already - but if not, e-mail them (from
the homepage) and ask for test bags, I got two quite large bags and one
of them (the breed specific one) is an absolute hit! Worth a try....
Apparently cats aren't all that into variation and don't find it
interesting (as humans do), as they are creatures of habit and territory
- according to the half-a-ton of books on cats I read before Gia, my
cat, moved in. So perhaps you needn't worry about varying their meals as
much as getting them the right nutrition - that they want to eat, of
course. Gia eats Hill's, but she much prefers RC Persian. Much!
If you know what they really like, and it's healthy (apparently
Schnuckis isn't that good for cats), don't worry about variation. Much
better use the time playing with them than hunting around for different
types of catfood
