Congratulations Lars
I have just set up about 15 links to it on rootsweb.com
http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Ednkcen/index.html
as
http://www.dis-danmark.dk/forum/list.php?f=11
well worthy of support
Have you notified Cyndi's list?
I see the same tendency away from usenet genealogy in Sweden and Norway
too both rootsweb and their usenet are quiet
In UK county lists and county family history societies dominate
ancestry.co.uk is going well with name birthplace age parish indexes to
good quality images for census 1901 1891 1871
the old 1881 transcription is still a freebie but with pay for images
the collection of 1861 images with name birthplace age parish index is
due to be launched next weekend when we have our big Family History
Show in London (1852 aand 1841 will follow)
parish registers take the third place with the main volunteer efforts
going to transcribing the index of the civil registration from 1 July
1937 to date

More than 5000 volununteers
The FreeBMD Database was last updated on Thu 21 Apr 2005 and currently
contains 99,778,600 distinct records (120,036,767 total records).
On Fri 22 Apr 2005 FreeBMD users did 141,251 searches
As you see they have solid sponsorship
running on about 6 servers
The mirror site at ancestry.com and ancestry.co.uk runs about 14 to 28
days behind

The complete index images are available on fiche world wide or on

before 1875 not all births were registered and from 1837 church books
dominate mostly on film by LDS
Equivalent to contra kirkebøger Bishops transcripts of the parish
registers were sent to the diocesal archives and survive in various
states of repair
In Wales LDS were refused access to the parish register so I have to go
personally to the county record office or use bishops transcripts which
are widely distributed
Scotland and Ireland have their own systems
Next
I have just started a new group
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/sgbm
because the old soc.genealogy.britain has become full of OT stuff
