I had some training in that in my student engineer days
you have special measureing rules to work oversize
to allow for the shrinkage of the hot metal as it cools
the surfaces are fine varnished like IKEA furniture from 1980
colour coded
and very smooth to help the pattern come free from the sand
which is packed around it in the foundry by the moulder
