Take it to dk.snak.mudderkastning, the technical support group, fjols.
Putting this in a signature!?!?? A Real Newsreader[tm] strips away
the signature so the reader cannot reply to it and often never sees
it in the first place. Luckily I'm using Outhouse Distress, the world's
absolute most bestest newsreader, so this doesn't happen to me and I
can followup to you.
The flow of news out of tnews ended on 23:12:32 on 15.Mar. There
was a time when it was throttled overnight and no news was received
during this time, which I believe started just before midnight on
15.Mar.
tnews.inet.tele.dk has not been properly configured, and I'm not
sure how it's supposed to be configured. I've been told one thing
about how it was to be operating, particularly for customer posts,
but the reality of how it actually has been set up is different.
I've assumed that reader posts would be directly submitted to the
fascist filtering CensurBot for censorship at post time, but this
is not how it's been configured. Not that there is anything wrong
with not submitting posts directly to the CensurBot, but what then
happens is they get deleted quietly and without sorrow.
If this machine really is intended to send customer posts to the
world unfiltered, it's set up wrong to do this. If it is supposed
to be submitting posts to the CensurBot, it's also set up wrong for
that too.
What the admin of this swerver needs to do is to decide how it is
to run, and tell me that, so that I'm not assuming differently about
how the flow of news should be. I've been assuming, and adjusting
the external configuration to match, that customer posts should pass
through the anti-spam filtering just as on news.tele.dk, to avoid
the risk of our periodic spammers being successful in flooding the
newsgroups unstopped. If this is no longer the case, then the way
that tnews delivers its news also needs to be changed, just as it
needs to be fixed in order to properly deliver articles to the
fascist filtering CensurBot.
Otherwise, you have two people working at cross-purposes -- I'm
trying to maintain a different configuration than the other admin,
but I don't know how to advise him to properly correct any errors
in configuration, and so things work less than optimally.
The missing articles are caused by not passing them properly in the
chain of news swervers to avoid the path checking which is now
resulting in path stripping so the posts are rejected when offered
to any other peers by the CensurBot, which receives them just fine,
now that I know about the path change and can monitor these incoming
articles, although less than ideally since I have nothing specific
to key into.
I'm not here for my health, that's for sure; I'm here to help a smooth
transition between newsbastards and news machines, and to give advice
about how the way things are set up might affect any future changes.
I'm here for people to consult with me. And if people are talking to
me less than once per week, I'd be doing better to spend my time in
some other warmer location. USE ME, DAMMIT. TAKE ME, I'M YOURS.
RAVAGE ME TOTALLY. Unless you feel you're ready to get along without
my input or advice, in which case please let me know and I'll stop
keeping a close watch on everything. I might even Have a Life[tm].
Apart from a few hours overnight a couple days ago, the news.tele.dk
machine has been running flawlessly for two months or more, and its
configuration for posting is unchanged (it passes through the fascist
CensurBot as before). As always, it gets a filtered censored feed
coming in, and carries text and a small selection of certain pr0n and
binaries groups, which are hidden from time to time in order to keep
performance high. It's actually done better than tnews so far, as seen
from outside backlogs.
The tnews machine is, last I knew, either not filtering or doing only
very limited selective filtering. It, however, processes all cancels,
so that it was hit, like news.tele.dk, by a flood of rogue cancels
that wiped out ten days worth of postings yesterday in at least one
newsgroup, and unfortunately, which also bypassed the filter where I
try to block such things from reaching news.tele.dk. This all is only
going on what I've been told, modified by what I've seen where it does
not match what I expect to see.
