Samui is gearing up for the high season. A high season that is desperately
needed by all, though many fear it will fail to materialise.The immediate
effect of the
various security alerts has been an increase in low end tourists in
Chaweng,
while the upmarket resorts are nearly empty.

Lamai Beach has become the bad centre of Thailand...and that's saying
something. Two weeks ago I mentioned the poor state of the McDonald's
toilets which do seem to have improved but now I've discovered that the
situation at the round bars (Lady Boxing arena) is even worse. For two
months the lavatory block has been "under reconstruction" with all sexes
being forced to use the ladies'. Unfortunately, nobody has taken
responsibility for cleaning or maintaining the area and it is now so bad
that many punters are refusing to go there, which is costing the bars
money. The bar owners have offered to rectify the situation but the owner
of the land apparently won't let them. Clearly Lamai residents like
standing in piss when they pee.
