'Quiet Sun' puzzles astronomers
The Sun is the dimmest that it has been
for nearly a century - and with no
sunspot and very few solar flares, it
is more inactive for many years.
Last year, the Sun was expected to
become more active after a quiet spell.
Instead it hit a 50-year low in
solar wind pressure, a 55-year low in
radio emissions, and a 100-year low in
sunspot activity.
Puzzled astronomers are due to examine
new pictures of the Sun, taken from
space, at the UK Astronomy Meeting.
