Paul formally declared his candidacy for the 2008 Republican nomination on March 12, 2007, on
C-SPAN.[29][109] His campaign has grassroots support, and he had dozens of wins in GOP straw polls.
He is popular in web searches[110] and YouTube subscriptions,[111] and "surprisingly strong"
fundraising[112] with several record-breaking events. He has the highest rate of military
contribution for 2008,[113][114] and donations came from individuals,[115] aided significantly by an
online presence and very active campaigning by supporters,[116] who organized moneybomb fundraisers
which overall netted millions over several months. Paul raised more than any other Republican
candidate in fourth-quarter 2007.[117] Paul's name was a number-one web search term as ranked by
Technorati, beginning around May 2007.[118] He has led other candidates in YouTube subscriptions
since May 20, 2007.[119] Ron Paul's supporters in 2008 have been more active and enthusiastic about
the campaign than has been seen before with other candidates.
Paul has been largely ignored by the traditional media,[120] including at least one incident where
