Er der nogen som ved, hvad Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah handler om?

Jeg synes bare det er en smuk sang, og ville gerne vide lidt mere om den.

Her er teksten:

I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the Lord

The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Jeg synes personligt at Jeff Buckleys udgave er guddommelig og Cohens er
rigtig fed. Men jeg synes også man bør Rufus Wrainwrights. Det er den der
er med i Shrek.

Mere præcist: Det er den, der er på soundtracket til Shrek. I selve filmen
er det John Cale, der synger. Hans udgave af Hallelujah kan man finde på
soundtracket til filmen Basquiat. Der var vist noget med, at de, der lavede
Shrek, ikke kunne få rettighederne til at lægge Cales udgave på
soundtracket.

Det svar, jeg skrev, er åbenbart blevet ædt, så jeg prøver igen. Jeg
undskylder, hvis det her dukker op to gange.

Mere præcist: Rufus Wainwrights udgave er på *soundtracket* til Shrek. I
selve filmen er det John Cale, der synger. Hans udgave af Hallelujah kan man
finde på soundtracket til filmen Basquiat. Der var vist noget med, at de,
der lavede Shrek, ikke kunne få rettighederne til at lægge Cales udgave på
soundtracket.

Det er efter min mening også den fedeste udgave, men kan dog også
godt lide danske Freyas fortolkning af sangen. Den kommer ikke op på siden
af Buckleys, men prøv at hør' den.

Det må være Kong David fra Biblen. Han spillede lovsange til på lyre eller
harpe.

Ved ikke. Det lyder lidt som om sangens fortæller nu synger til sin kære.

Det er vist stadig til fortællerens kære, men måske er der referencer til
David. Han fortrød bitterligt hvad han gjorde mod Urias (stjal hans hustru
og sendte ham i døden på slagmarken). "Shoot somebody who outdrew you" kan
måske henvise til dengang David slog Goliath ihjel, men det gi'r vel ingen
mening i denne sammenhæng. I øvrigt har jeg svært ved at forstå tekstens
mening eller budskab.

Hmm, David angrede da. Han blev tilgivet og blev forfar til Jesus. Mener
ikke at han stædigt straffede andre. Kan heller ikke se at sangen på nogen
måde (direkte) refererer til de 10 bud. Jeg tror at sangen handler om det
ødelæggende og på sigt utilfredsstillende kødelige begær i kontrast til ægte
kærlighed (til Gud).

Leonard Cohen skrev den efter at hans kæreste havde slået op med ham, så den
handler om ulykkelig kærlighed. Men stadigvæk er den utroligt god sang. Vi
spiller den selv i vores band.
