As a registered user of the Golden Code(R) RTE and SDK for J2SE(TM)
1.4.1 product, please be advised that maintenance release
1.4.1_06-gcd-b32-20031128 is now available for download. This native
port to OS/2 of Sun Microsystems' J2SE 1.4.1_06 FCS release is licensed
and branded, and has been certified Java Compatible(TM) on OS/2.
The 11-28-2003 release of the GCD JVM 1.4.1 includes the following
enhancements:
1. A complete, well tested Java plugin for use in Mozilla 1.4 is now
included in the distribution. This plugin is a complete replacement for
the IBM JVM 1.3.1 plugin and it supports the full range of features from
graphics, sound, printing and clipboard to the Java console and a fully
functional control panel. The plugin has been tested under extremely
stressful conditions and it has proven to be very reliable. Golden Code
Development has found applets that will trap the IBM JVM which work
perfectly well in the GCD JVM. For more information, please see the

2. High memory support is greatly enhanced. In addition to the
previous usage of high memory, now the Java heap is placed in high
memory by default. This allows the creation of very large heap sizes
(>2GB) and it also greatly reduces the contention for private address
space below the 512MB boundary. See the readme.txt for more details.
3. New configuration options are now available which greatly improve
the user's control over setting default behavior on a global or
per-process basis. These options include setting the user home and
global command line options via environment variables. See the
readme.txt for more information.
4. Some new performance enhancements have been included.
5. Updated the core code base to the latest 1.4.1_06 which just became
available from Sun on 11-18-2003.
6. DBCS improvements, especially in the handling of code pages and
fonts. DBCS support is still considered partial since the AWT
heavyweight components have not been adequately tested, however the base
JVM and any Swing based applications are expected to work well.
7. Improved font processing and multiple font properties options are
now available. These font properties can be used to improve the font
rendering in situations where the installed fonts are sub-standard. The
default for fonts is now set to be more optimal for systems with better
quality fonts installed, but the previous configuration is still
available for systems on which this is a better choice. For more

8. The native JVM interface for C programs has been made as compatible
as possible with the IBM JVM interface. There are some changes that are
required because of the 1.3.1 versus 1.4.1 J2SE level. In addition, the
IBM JVM included some non-standard interfaces which are not maintained
or provided in the GCD JVM. However, this is as close to 100%
compatible as is possible.
In addition to these enhancements, many fixes have been made to
resolve the majority of the open issues found by customers or in
internal testing by Golden Code Development. This release represents a
very stable and well tested implementation of the J2SE 1.4.1 environment.
