Can someone help?

I got a Compaq Armada 1700 6300/T/5000/D/0/1, which has developed the
following fault, and I just don’t seem to be able to find any correction doc
anywhere.

Periodically while working but lately also when switching on the laptop, the
screen boots up as all white. There is a small button on the left connecter
between the main base of the laptop and the screen when the screen is all
white and this button is pressed it goes black as in the screen being
switched off (which the button is supposed to do).

Another (related?) problem is that from time to time the screen goes all
black and only one option is available to reboot the laptop.

Could this have to do with the button on the left side of the base or
perhaps a faulty battery or screen? Please help this is getting really
irritating!

This is a known problem with Armada 1700/1750's. Call Compaq at 800-OK-COMPA (In
the UK, I don't know the #). They have been known to repair units even out of
warranty with this problem (but no guarantee).
