Bird racing is something of a minority sport. I've never been on a bird
race - probably something to do with those pre-pre-pre-dawn starts.
But in Singapore, by changing the format somewhat, they have created a
hugely popular variant in which there were 123,500 entrants for a contest
this year, and a possible prize of over 1.2 million Singapore dollars.
See

story.
Those who think this is all a bit too similar to that other form of British
bird-racing involving specialy-bred strains of Columbia livia, could
consider that by changing to this form they can forget all their worries
about predation by Peregrines.
It's arguably saner than competitive year-listing anyway :-^
