same here, use the LW8 driver.
I looked up Apple's site for this info when I got mine last year and it
specified the LaserWriter 8 driver. Specifically I am using ver 8.3.4 on my
68K Mac. All other versions got me nowhere, like LW 8.6.1, LW 8.5.1 & LW
4.3.3 were other versions I tried to use.
LW8 v8.3.4 works unaltered from my Mac Q605. From the PC side (98 & ME
through MacLan & Appletalk) however, I used the LaserWriter Select 360 from
the list of Apple printers then had to modify a couple of settings to get
rid of extra pages that were printed after each job...
One was to turn off printing of error pages, this is under
printer-properties-postscript.
The other was to stop sending Ctrl-D with the job, this is under the
advanced button on the postscript tab. turn off Send Ctrl-D before and after
each job.
Also you will probably need the LW Utilities to change printer settings. the
program you want is for the Mac, called Apple Printer Utility 2.2, but I'm
not sure what the filename is called. It's on Apple's ftp site somewhere.
With this program you can switch options on and off, like sending a test
page each time the printer is powered on, adjusting toner
brightness/darkness, checking the number of pages printed, font settings,
memory configuration etc. Don't know if there is a PC equivalent to this
program.
Great printer too, check out Office Works for discounted Toner carts, I got
two unopened genuine Apple ones for $25 each, normally $129 each. They are
no longer being stocked at Officeworks, at least here in Townsville.
Off topic, but If anyone has a front load 50 sheet feed tray for this
printer, I am still interested in buying it.
