Ford to reprise role as Indiana Jones
2002-04-01,1:15 AM ET
By Allan Andrews
E! Online reports Spielberg's next Indiana
Jones adventure starring Harrison Ford has Indy
unearthing another biblical relic -- Noah's Ark.
Filming is set to begin this summer, from a
script by Sixth Sense writer-director
M. Night Shyamalan...
HOLLYWOOD (Reuters) - It's almost time for Harrison Ford to start
dusting off the old fedora. Indiana Jones is definitely coming back
for a fourth installment as a potential summer or holiday 2003
release.
Spielberg spokesman Marvin Levy has confirmed that the director and
fellow
Indiana Jones mastermind George Lucas have come up with a story
involving Noah's Ark, and Ford has agreed to reprise his famous role.
A report from E! Online raises hopes the project may begin as early as
July. During an after-party in March to commemorate the 20th
anniversary re-release of "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial", an E! Online
reporter tracked down Spielberg, who said, "We have a title, but we're
not ready to announce it. I'll give you one clue, though. Kate is in
it."
Spielberg, of course, was referring to his wife, actress Kate Capshaw,
who played Willie Scott, Indy's damsel in distress in Indiana Jones
and the Temple of Doom. When asked whether her character would be back
in flashbacks, the director said, "No, she'll be in the present."
According to Spielberg, "It was always about getting the right script,
and now we have it". Levy now says Spielberg was referring to a script
by Sixth Sense writer-director M. Night Shyamalan. Recent rumors have
suggested Indy was set to discover the lost city of Atlantis.
Spielberg plans on beginning the fourth Indiana Jones feature as soon
as he wraps Catch Me If You Can, an action-comedy starring Leonardo
DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, slated to hit theaters in December. The Indy
adventure got the green light soon after Spielberg dropped plans to
direct Memoirs of a Geisha, a project he had long been flirting with.
Ford's current project - the upcoming sub thriller K-19: The
Widowmaker - will be released through Paramount this summer. In
Widowmaker, Ford plays a Russian sub captain faced with a potential
deadly nuclear disaster aboard his boat.
At 59, Ford is getting to be old enough to play one of the relics Indy
digs up, as opposed to the swashbuckling hero. But Ford has no plans
to slow down. After reprising the Indy role, Ford will star in a film
about the heroic life and tragic death of maverick humanitarian worker
Fred Cuny, with Intermedia Films eying a 2003 production start.
The big question mark is how much input Lucas will have on the Indy
film. Beyond helping out on the story, reps for Lucasfilm could not
confirm Lucas' participation. The filmmaker has been busy helming the
Star Wars prequels, the last of which won't hit screens until 2005.
The last time the whip-wielding, adventure-seeking archaeologist was
on screen
was in 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Paramount, which distributed the first three Indy films and whose
mountain logo
famously opens each adventure, has first dibs on the fourth
installment as well.

Yrk! Jeg vidste ikke, at Indy blev korsfæstet. Sker det i film nr. 5?
