What features are unique to the Adaptec 5400S?
The Adaptec 5400S delivers advanced features not available in other RAID
products:
Full drive utilization allows the full capacity of all disk drives in an
array, including drives of different capacities to be used. Where
competitive products are limited to using only as much capacity as the
smallest drive in an array, the Adaptec 5400S can utilize the full capacity
of new, larger drives in arrays with older smaller drives. IT managers do
not waste the additional capacity of larger drives, thereby leveraging
existing investments in their storage systems with updated drive technology.
Additional capacity in larger drives can be used as separate storage
volumes, or be integrated into another storage array.
A removable daughter card includes the battery and cache module so cache
data can be transferred to another Adaptec 5400S card in case of a board
failure.
Multiple logical disks per physical disk drive to allow for more flexible
use of disk space. Users can configure multiple arrays on the same set of
physical disks, each with a unique file system, stripe size, and RAID level.
RAID Level Migration (morphing) allows storage arrays to be reconfigured
from one RAID level to another (i.e. RAID 1 to RAID 5) without having to
reboot.
